What is

Salaryo?

Salaryo is a Fintech startup that provides digital term loans and lines of credit for small businesses.

Imagine you are an experienced owner of a small business. You’re a business opportunist who combines work with passion. You’re very motivated to take your company to a next level, but your luck of sufficient budget keeps you from proceeding as planned.. This is where Salaryo comes in.

The Challenge

Redesign our website and product to a refreshing, friendly & modern look while maintaining reliability & seriousness of the fintech field.

Our vision is to provide financial stability to businesses experiencing income uncertainty.

Main Goals

Business

Helping small businesses grow and reach financial stability by offering flexible and affordable financing and digital banking products, especially during this period of time (COVID 19).

Personal

As a lead designer at the company, it was important for me to create a clear, reliable, and simple UX while maintaining a modern and friendly design.

Research

In order to create a clear and reliable website, we need to better understand who is our buyer persona, how big is his business? What role does he play in the company? Does he have financial experience? How old is he?

We sent out a survey, interviewed our users, and tracked their events on Mixpanel. Now let’s see what we found.

Website Redesign

After getting to know our users better, I started a website redesign process. The first step was a home page UX.

Final Website Design

In the final design, we walked the line between reliable and serious, but friendly and easy-going. Salaryo lives in a world which can feel sometimes technical, and overly serious. Our aim was to break that mold by using friendly images and colors, better fonts (Montserrat), fun illustration, and straightforward content.

Website Mobile Version

Enhancing Product Usability

The first step was to ‘kill’ the bot through which the user filled it’s details. We replaced it with an easy and friendly form. This version allowed us to measure the information and understand more in-depth how the customer thinks, Where did they stop in the application process? At what point was it easier for him to continue the process? At what point does he abandon registration?

Discoveries

After tracking events on Mixpanel, we found out that the user abandoned the process while:
1. Filling the bank details.
2. Uploading ID documents without success due to system error.
3. Trying to connect the user’s bank through Plaid (a third-party company) and get transferred to an external pop-up.
4. The user finished filling the Plaid form and an error occurred resulting in the user being returned to our page.

Solutions

We improved the product by:
1. Reducing questions in registration and leaving only the most critical.
2. Adding a ‘skip’ option to allow the user to upload documents after initial registration is complete.
3. Adding an explanation text that explains that Plaid’s (pop-up) step is a part of our process.
4. Adding an error text that explains system failure after filling Plaid’s pop-up.
5. Redesigning “threatening” texts to user-friendly language.

In Conclusion

In order to achieve friendly and trendy design while maintaining seriousness and reliability, we used a mixture of dark blue and dark gray (serious) with yellow and light colors as blue, purple and yellow (fun and friendly). We also emphasized the simplicity of the product, its efficiency, and ease of use through significant illustrations and iconography.
